American Spirit Award

The American Spirit Award is directly linked to the West Virginia Spirit Award, formally known as the West Virginia Community Service Award. It is presented annually by the U.S. Air Force during the National TSA conference. Selection for this award is based on the overall value of civic objectives; the development of active civic leaders and citizens among the chapter members; and activities that perpetuate the American way of life. A written proposal and photographs which are prepared following the guidelines in the Curricular Resource Guide must be sent to the state. If your chapter wins the West Virginia Spirit Award, your chapter’s application is then turned in at the National level.

Distinguished Student Award

The recipient of the Distinguished Student Award is selected on the basis of valued service to the community and to TSA. Both past and present contributions are considered.

Advisor of the Year

The TSA Advisor of the Year Award gives TSA chapter presidents and members, working with state advisors, the oppurtunity to recognize the work of their chapter advisor that makes the chapter a success. Advisor activities in the classroom and at local, state, and national levels are reviewed. A chapter advisor receiving the award might also demostrate considerable skill in promoting TSA and in facilitating and recognizing accomplishments of students.

William P. Elrod Memorial Scholarship

This $300 scholarship has been made available through funds dedicated to the memory of William P. Elrod. Mr. Bill Elrod, a founding father of TSA, passed away on April 3, 1990. Bill was the chapter advisor of madison HS TSA in Madison, Kansas; a previous Kansas TSA state advisor; the Kansas TSA, Inc. corporate member; a former member of the TSA, Inc. Board of Directors and the former TSA national advisor and national assistant advisor.

All donations to the William P. Elrod Memorial Scholarship Fund have been set up as an endowment with the annual recipient receiving the interest accumulated each year. The scholarship is awarded each year to a TSA college or vo/tech school bound student in good academic standing for outstanding service in the field of technology. The recipient of the scholarship will be publicly announced at the TSA national conference. Recipients will have eighteen months to spend all funds in the scholarship.

The Awards Committee of the Board of Directors will select the winner of the scholarship by majority vote from amoung the field of applicants. In the event no qualified recipients are available, the funds may be carried over until such time as they may be awarded. Private tax-deductible donations are accepted for this fund.
