June 25-29, 2003

A 19 hour bus trip brought ninety-nine
students and teachers from West Virginia to join nearly 4,000 TSA members
from across the nation at the 25th National Conference in
Orlando, Florida. With the theme, “TSA, Unveiling the Potential in You,”
the conference unveiled student winners Cathy Lambey (Clay County HS)
in Desktop Publishing, and the team from South MS in Leadership
Challenge. West Virginia placed in the top ten in sixteen other
events, which involved over 40 additional students!
Explaining how the quality of life in the
modern world is driven by technology, noted expert in spacecraft design
Dr. Jack Bacon delivered the keynote speech. He works at the NASA Johnson
Space Center,
where his duties include assignments in the
integrated architecture, design, and operations of the Shuttle and the
International Space Station.

Students had a great time visiting local malls
and restaurants and other attractions when not in general sessions or in
competition. The last day found us at Universal Studios for a day of
fun in the sun--except it poured the rain and everyone ended up traveling
19 hours back to WV in wet clothes!!
P.S. Alta McDaniel, WV State Advisor, is the
new president and chairman of TSA, Inc.
